You may already know about this
...but the whole thing is happening all over again, only with a different excuse.

[info]fandomtossed.

Same shtick about "this isn't a change, this has always been our policy": same non-apology apologies: and, apparently, same silence for days from Six Apart as LJ members who had been suspended or had their communities suspended tried to get answers from LJ Abuse.

What drives me nuts is that they have already apologised and reinstated almost everyone - yet no such apology or reinstatement for the "nipplegate" suspendees. So apparently, having incest and "underage" sexual interests gets an apology but not nursing moms.

There were good economic reasons for their apology/reinstatement of the fans whose journals got targetted, though.

They had no economic reason to care about breastfeeding.

Well, with the breastfeeding thing - I know personally only two people who actually left livejournal over it, me and one other. After a big stir on the 6th of June last year, everyone else just changed their icons and went on as usual. It's clear you can get Six Apart to pay attention, but enough people have to care a lot to do it. A handful of people leaving isn't going to do it: mass suspensions might have, but you need a mass of people.

If Six Apart had treated the Fandom Tossed thing like the breastfeeding thing - sent suspension notices with five days to change their list of interests or get suspended - I suspect fandom would have knuckled under and obeyed. It was the sudden mass suspensions with no warning that got enough people enough annoyed. And probably Six Apart has learned enough that next time they want to change livejournal, they'll do it by the anti-breastfeeding technique - change the rules and send suspension notices - which they know works. Given five days to think about how much they'll miss livejournal, most people will abandon whatever they thought they treasured and obey. End of problem.
